they who feel

October 20, 2011 § 2 Comments

as a human I am made to feel
as the wheel was made to turn
uphills and downward and rough terrain leads to flats on occasion
but that is how to reach the Destination

as a human I am made to feel
and so I do
and how I deal with a spectrum of emotions
–my response to those makes me
more or less—human more or less
to try to avoid that is to try to thwart humanness
it is to try to stop breathing— but to keep living

human is to feel as spokes on the wheel that lead to the center
I ask
what’s wrong with wanting the softness of heart that Abu Bakr had
not making it through a prayer without a beard wet from weeping
let the rain make way through the rocks

thwart hardness of the heart at all cost
because the cost is high.
